Class 4 Instructor Rating

The Instructor Rating is one of the two most common routes to that first flying job. Through this course, you will obtain a Class 4 Instructor Rating, which will allow you to train student pilots for the Recreational Pilot Permit, Private Pilot Licence and Commercial Pilot Licence, while working for a flying school and under the supervision of a Class 1 or 2 flight instructor. In this course, you will hone your flying skills and knowledge, and learn instructing techniques for both ground and flight training. It is said that the Instructor Rating course is where you learn everything which you should already know.

172 training flightBefore commencing training for the Instructor Rating, you must possess a Commercial Pilot Licence or higher, and have a valid Category 1 Medical Certificate. Prior to commencing training, you must be able to fly all private and commercial flight test exercises to a score of 3 or 4, and possess a level of knowledge equivalent to that required for the issue of the Commercial Pilot Licence. We will assess your knowledge and skills by means of a check flight and written exam. Any training required in order to meet this standard will increase the overall cost of the instructor rating.

In addition to the above prerequisites, the course requirements are as follows: You must complete a minimum of 30 hours of dual instruction and 25 hours of ground training, both with a Class 1 flight instructor. You must then demonstrate your skill by passing a flight test with a Transport Canada examiner, and demonstrate your knowledge by obtaining not less than 70% on the final written exam. We also recommend that you budget for 10 hours of solo practice.

The Instructor Rating is GST exempt, and is fully income tax deductible.
As the Instructor Rating is done on a one-on-one basis, you may start training at any time and may proceed at your own pace.
